Potential Second Mentor11/3/2020 It is entirely possible that I might ask Mr. Bodley to be my second mentor. Since he learned about my project, we've been exchanging sources and having conversations after class. I'll have to ask if this is possible because it would be really nice to share this project with him.

Fall Updates11/3/2020 Since I missed the entirety of October, I have a lot to update on. First and foremost, I got officially accepted as a Fellow! This is pretty exciting and I look forward to completing this project. Of course, with this acceptance meant that I needed to present my project to the school, which, in all honesty, didn't go as well as I had hoped. Though I wrote my speech, I bobbled my words and didn't sound quite as professional as I'd hoped. Next time, I will stick to small notes and off the cuff speaking (the style I'm most accustomed to).
On a different note, I met with Mr. Meyer to discuss my Fall Semester 40%. Right now, I'm just writing as much as I can, exploring different topics that reached prominence over the last year. My favorite one so far has been tracking the tweets and speeches of politicians in regards to their response to the pandemic. Very often, many assign blame on a federal level but overlook the state and local level, which is where most of the most useful and reasonable actions are done. Overall, I've just been enjoying writing this book and researching different topics.

Bumps in the Road11/3/2020 The last month has been a bit difficult with a few bumps in the road that obstruct progress. First on the top of that list is my realization that not only does my iPad not allow for journaling, its file uploads are not in the appropriate format. So from now on, all my work on this website will be done from a desktop. Second on my list is my ability to archive and document my research. Using my personal Google account to go through my search history has been a bit problematic, as the non-Fellows related videos obstruct my search for Fellows related material. To resolve this issue, I've created a new account specifically for this project so I can more easily transcribe my sources into my archives. Finally, I've had a lot of difficulty getting interviews. Though I've reached out to quite a few people, I've either gotten no response or have been told that they were unavailable. Though these issues have been sources of frustration, it feels good to have them now rather than later down the road.

Archive Updated9/30/2020 The archive has been updated! Unfortunately, it is not complete; it was a lot to type in at once. Over the next week, I will try to update a little bit each day.

September 25th, 20209/25/2020 Right now things are looking pretty good for this project. I’ve completed both my 40% and met with my mentor to discuss it. In total, I have roughly 8k words written and 5 interviews completed. To finish off the month of September, I’m going to upload all the websites and videos I used into my archive.

Home Stretch!8/31/2020 I am almost done with all my summer work 🥳. I just have an interview tomorrow, and to finalize my pre-corona economic analysis. Before, my first fellows meeting of the year, I also need to update this website with all the reading and watching I’ve done.

August 25th, 20208/25/2020 I’ve almost completed my work on section one: Analyzing the Economy Pre-COVID 19. Additionally, I’ve conducted two more interviews since my last post. I estimate that there will be 30+ pgs by the time I am done with this section. I’ve been in contact with my mentor, Mr. Meyer, and I will send him my completed work soon. Once I’m done with this section, I’ll probably post it publicly for review and editing.

Reflecting and Looking Forward7/20/2020 Right now, I've watched so many videos that I can't quite remember where which piece of info came from. This might be problematic when it comes to citations later. So, to resolve this, from now on I will journal daily to keep a proper account of what I've been working on. Additionally, I will keep an archive page to detail what exactly it is I've been doing and to sort out all my sources.
On a different note, I've begun reaching out to different people for interviews, and I completed my first interview yesterday (I interviewed Adedeji Opeola, an investment banker who specializes in mergers and acquisitions).

Progress Report7/6/2020 So far, I've been doing as much reading as I can (articles, reports, books, etc). I'll probably start writing the book and reaching out for interviews next week.

First Entry!6/6/2020 On Tuesday, June 2, I met with Ms. Carsley and the rest of the provisional fellows to discuss our next steps on our projects. Soon, I will meet with Mr. Meyer, my mentor, to discuss my summer 40% requirement. Right now, I think it will probably be about learning the factors that led to the market crash (as seen above) and whether or not such a crash was inevitable. I'll most likely send surveys to both institutional and individual investors on the market change (depicted above). On a different note, yesterday, I finished Irrational Exuberance by Robert Schiller. It was a pretty decent read (I like the way his sections were structured, I'll probably copy its format). Today, I've started Economics in the Age of COVID-19 by Joshua Gans. This is probably the best book to start with for my project; it'll most likely shape my future approach to this topic. Hopefully, I'll finish reading it before my meeting with Mr. Meyer on Monday. Moving forward, my greatest concern might be the amount of time I have to complete this project. It's entirely possible that I might try to make too in-depth an analysis and spend too much of my time reading instead of writing. Oh well...we'll see what happens.
